Adventure Elopement in Idaho Springs, Colorado
Idaho Springs, Colorado is a wonderful option for an intimate mountain adventure elopement. It’s only 45 minutes from Denver and has tons of little hidden gem locations. Idaho Springs is the perfect town to take off in your vehicle and just explore the surrounding mountains. With short hikes, mountain overlooks, paved pass roads, lakes, and an adorable little mountain town with local shops and restaurants.
Heidi + Phil wanted a really simple but beautiful elopement in January. With Evergreen sitting at 7,165′ elevation, so it’s a wonderful choice for winter elopements because you can get winter without having to deal with all the winter traffic to the high country. Just drive Squaw Pass to find snow, frozen lakes and mountain views.
Heidi and I met at her hotel where she was getting ready in Evergreen. We drove up Squaw Pass Road to meet up with Phil for their first look. We decided on Juniper Pass Picnic Area as there were no cars there and Echo Lake was absolutely packed. It was perfect, we had the whole place to ourselves for their intimate first look.
From Juniper Pass you can see one of Colorado’s 14ers Mount Evans and it’s surrounding 13ers like Goliath Peak and Roger’s Peak. It’s the perfect overlook with rocky outcroppings and beautiful wide mountain views.
After their first look, we headed down the hill and stopped at a trail to explore on the way to their ceremony in Evergreen. We bundled up and ran from the parking lot to the trees to get out of the cold wind. We found a teepee made of branches where they enjoyed their giant wedding cake joint.
