Snow Lovers Celebrate on The Perfect Pow Day

A few years ago, I had the honor of photographing Emma & Garrett’s unforgettable snowy elopement on Loveland Pass. Their plan was as bold as their love—say their vows at 12,000 feet, then cap it off with a celebratory ride at Arapahoe Basin. But fate had other plans when an injury on one of the first runs cut their mountain adventure short.

Fast-forward to this week, and we finally got to redeem the day with an epic anniversary ski adventure—and let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

We kicked things off at sunrise with some fresh family portraits. We didn’t get the alpenglow spilling over the ridgelines painted the sky in soft pinks and golds, but a blanket of fresh snow clung to the pines and a wall of white made our view—a true winter wonderland. Emma and Garrett’s playful, easygoing energy made capturing their connection effortless. Their kids, all full of smiles, stole the show more than once, playing in the snow with uncontainable joy.

But the real magic began when we hit the slopes at Beaver Creek, one of their favorite resorts. And BC delivered. We scored mid-week perfection—free refills of powder, courtesy of consistent snowfall, paired with those fleeting bursts of sun that make everything sparkle. The kind of conditions you dream of.

Emma and Garrett were in their element—carving through the soft, untouched snow on their ski bikes with the kind of fluidity that comes from years of riding together. Their synchronized turns and laughter were a testament to not only their skills but also their bond—adventuring side by side, just as they vowed to do.

Photographing them against the ever-changing light was a dream. One moment, we were enveloped in a gentle whiteout, creating an ethereal, almost surreal backdrop. The next, the sun would break through, lighting up the snow like glitter. Every frame told a story of love, resilience, and shared passion for the mountains.

Adventure sessions like this are what I live for—documenting couples who feel most alive out in the wild, chasing snowflakes and memories alike. Emma and Garrett’s anniversary ski adventure was more than just a photoshoot—it was a reminder that sometimes, life gives you a second chance at the perfect powder day.
