Jess & Taylor Hiking Elopement | Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Jess and Taylor first reached out with the dream of a backpacking elopement—one that could somehow include their two young daughters along the way. But as we talked more, they realized they didn’t just want their girls to drop in for part of the adventure—they wanted them there for every single moment. 💛
Their vision was simple and magical: a short hike, a grassy meadow with sweeping mountain views to exchange vows, and bare feet in the earth during the ceremony. Since they had a family cabin just outside Pagosa Springs, I started my search there, combing through every trail to find the one.
During a previous elopement in the area, I’d stumbled upon a trail that meandered through a quiet forest and, just about a mile in, opened up to a wide meadow with jaw-dropping views. I sent Jess and Taylor all their options, but when they saw photos of that trail, the choice was easy—it was the perfect spot for their hiking elopement with family.

They chose a sunrise ceremony to enjoy the cool morning air and a little extra solitude. We arrived at the meadow about twenty minutes before the sun began peeking over the peaks. None of us could have predicted what would happen next: as the first light touched the dewy grass, the entire field began to steam, creating the most otherworldly, golden haze. It felt like we had stepped right into a dream.
💫 If you’ve been dreaming of the kind of scenery that feels straight out of a fairytale, a Pagosa Springs elopement might just be your perfect match. I’d love to help you find your own magical spot to say “I do.”
After exchanging vows in the magical morning mist, Jess and Taylor danced and played barefoot in the warm, glowing steam. Then, sprawled out on a blanket, they enjoyed picnic snack boxes from Farm to Finger Grazing—simple, beautiful, and delicious.
When everyone’s bellies were happy, we began the hike back to the trailhead. But before heading to the cabin, we made one last stop to soak in the views along the road—because when the mountains demand your attention, you stop.
Back at the cabin, the day continued with a cozy bonfire, the signing of their marriage license, and a surprise musical performance from their daughters, who composed their own songs on an iPad. It was heartfelt, laughter-filled, and completely them.
If you ask me, it was the kind of day that perfectly captures why a Pagosa Springs Elopement—especially one with your family by your side—can feel like pure magic.
